Here at niche perfumery ORTIR Apothecari we have everyone (relatively) settled back into routine and I am finding the time to work through all of the samples of oils and other ‘bits’ accumulated on summer jaunts.
Laden with bottles of all shapes, vials of different sizes and random scrawls (which I can only hope I will later decipher) I am reminded of the Habit de Parfumeur, by Polish sculptor Tomek Kawiak.
Commissioned in 1997 by the Mayor of Grasse, this bronze (after a centuries old engraving by Nicolas II de Larmessin) stands at the entrance of the International Perfume Museum – a seventeenth century French perfume maker wearing a costume fabricated by his wares.
As I am heading to the big smoke later this week, I feel grateful to be a 21st century perfumer.
Travelling relatively light.
