At independent British perfume house, ORTIR Apothecari, we believe that a little dormancy goes a long way.
Fallow months lie ahead.
From dawn ‘til dusk, daylight dips shy of ten hours.
Rather than wallow, we rejoice.
For this is not banishment* but opportunity - to rest up and reflect.
If you must, look ahead and plan.
But heed Mother Nature** and slow your rhythm. For when Persephone, Goddess of Spring returns, it will be all too soon, and we will be back to busy-ness.
* In Greek mythology Persephone was abducted by Hades and taken to the Underworld. Demeter, her mother and Goddess of Nature, was left devastated and would not allow crops to grow during the months Persephone was banished.
**During this period of diminished sunlight many plants enter a state of dormancy to conserve energy and ride out winter.
